"All of them are nervous," said team spokesman Giorgi Tchanishvili.
The Georgian government decided to keep the 35-member team at the Beijing Olympics, he told The Associated Press.
"They have to concentrate on competition, but it's very tough," he said. "But we are together, all of us."
He told the AP early Sunday that Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili sent a message to the team, saying it would be better for Georgia if the athletes remained at the games. Tchanishvili said the team was ready to leave if it would help.
The Georgian team lives only a few dozen yards (meters) away from the much larger Russian team, but there have been no problems, he said.
Members of both teams even chatted on the infield of National Stadium during Friday night's opening ceremony and everything was "absolutely normal," Tchanishvili said. "We know it is the Olympic games, and all of us sportsmen ... want everything to be normal."
Russian team spokesman Gennady Shvets agreed, saying the two teams had a "normal relationship."
International Olympic Committee spokesman Giselle Davies said Sunday both countries are "here in a sporting context and they've confirmed their participation — very much in the light of respect, friendship, athlete-to-athlete. We have no reason to have any concerns on that."
That was borne out later Sunday when silver medalist Natalia Paderina of Russia shared the medal podium with bronze winner Nino Salukvadze in the women's 10-meter air rifle competition. Paderina put her arm around Salukvadze, then gave her a kiss on the cheek.
Russia sent tanks and troops into the separatist province of South Ossetia and bombed Georgian towns Saturday in a major escalation of the conflict that has left hundreds of dead and wounded. Georgia, a staunch U.S. ally, launched a major offensive Friday to retake control of the province. Russia, which has close ties to the province and posts peacekeepers there, responded by sending in armed convoys and military combat aircraft.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Moscow that some 1,500 people have been killed, but that figure could not be independently confirmed. Both claim the battle started after the other side violated a cease-fire that had been declared just hours earlier after a week of sporadic clashes.
Two members of the Georgian team — weightlifters Albert Kuzilov and Arsen Kasabiev — are from South Ossetia, Tchanishvili said.
"When the war is in your country, at such a time it is very difficult for them, for all of us," he added.
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili proposed a cease-fire Saturday. Russia did not immediately respond to the proposal.
IOC officials deplored the violence, especially at a time when the world's athletes had gathered for the games. The IOC and the U.N. General Assembly traditionally call for observance of an "Olympic Truce" during the period of the games.
U.S. IOC member Jim Easton called for the violence to stop for the duration of the Olympics.
"We are trying to say, `hey, let's have a truce for at least the Olympic Games, so we bring some peace to the world even for two weeks.' The timing couldn't be worse. War is not great at any time, but to have it on the first day of the Olympic competition was pretty bad timing," he said.
Beach volleyballer Cristine Santanna, a native Brazilian who plays for Georgia, said earlier that the "Olympics is a time for peace now."
"I see all the nations get together. ... I am very upset about it. I wish everybody would be at peace, especially during the Olympics," she said.

Socialite turned political spoofer Paris Hilton has hit web gold with her faux bid for presidency.

Since the mock campaign video was released three days ago on comedy site Funny or Die, the short has been viewed more than 6.2 million times, driving traffic numbers to the highest level in company history.

As Hilton might say, Funny or Die "loves it."

"We are excited that this piece has become a hot topic for both the media and the public and we find it insane that Paris has the country discussing energy policy," said Adam McKay, co-founder of Funny or Die and creator of the Hilton clip in a statement released Friday.

Hilton may just have enough viral star power to give Will Ferrell's raging baby short "The Landlord," which boasts nearly 60 million views since it first aired in 2007, a run for its page views.

Conflictul din zona Osetiei de Sud pare să se agraveze. Preşedintele Georgiei, Mihail Saakaşvili, a declarat, ieri, că ţara sa e în stare de război cu Moscova şi a avertizat că situaţia din zonă e pe cale să explodeze. El a făcut acest anunţ după ce armata rusă a atacat oraşul Gori, din centrul ţării. Potrivit oficialilor georgieni, bombardamentele ruseşti au făcut mii de victime în rândul civililor.

“Avem de-a face cu acte criminale şi decizii iresponsabile ale unor lideri nesăbuiţi. Toate acestea produc consecinţe dramatice în zona de conflict”, a afirmat Saakaşvili, într-un discurs public.

El a ceru Kremlinului să-şi înceteze imediat atacurile asupra Georgiei.

De asemenea liderul de la Tbilisi a făcut apel către comunitatea internaţională, să ia măsuri pentru a pune capăt violenţelor.

Autorităţile georgiene spun că armata rusă a efectuat mai multe raiduri asupra unor aşezări civile din ţară.

Cel mai grav afectat a fost oraşul Gori, situat în apropierea provinciei separatiste Oseţia de Sud. Aici atacurile ruseşti ar fi ucis mii de oameni. Agenţiile internaţionale au publicat imagini dramatice cu femei şi copii schilodiţi de bombardamente, case în flăcări şi oameni care îşi plângeau isteric rudele ucise.

Georgia şi-a rechemat acasă cei 2.000 de militari din Irak pentru a-i trimite în zona separatistă. Vineri, Rusia a trimis în regiune un convoi de tancuri şi forţe ale aviaţiei, într-o misiune pe care Kremlinul o numea “de menţinere a păcii”. Trupele au ajuns însă în oraşul Tskhinvali, considerat capitala Osetiei de Sud şi au atacat câteva poziţii ale armatei georgiene. Ieri, Kremlinul a anunţat că a preluat controlul asupra localităţii.

Un cioban indraznet a confundat pasunea cu Autostrada Soarelui. Zilele trecute, turma de oi a baciului a incurcat circulatia, pret de cateva minute bune, in apropierea Podului Cernavoda. Aflat zilele acestea la mare, la Mamaia, Adrian Minune (zis, mai nou, Adi de Vito) a dovedit ca, desi ii plac sporturile extreme, ramane totusi un impatimit al celui mai popular joc romanesc: tablele. Daca pana acum manelistul s-a ocupat de micutii sai, carora le-a facut mai toate poftele pe litoral, ba a mers chiar cu ski-jetul pentru a-si plimba fiica, de aceasta data Adi a vrut sa se distreze si el. Asa ca a incins pe plaja de la Rex o partida de table, la care, din cauza manifestarilor zgomotoase ale cantaretului in cazul unui zar bun, s-au adunat numerosi chibiti. Si pentru ca pe masa de joc mai multe hartii albastre isi asteptau castigatorul, bodygarzii, care pana atunci se harjoneau intre ei, au lasat joaca si s-au asezat "in dispozitiv". Ca sa nu fie nicio problema, iar Minune sa nu fie agresat in vreun fel de fanii sai, unul dintre ei s-a asezat pe un scaun, chiar la masuta pe care erau insirate tablele. E greu de spus cine si cat a castigat, pentru ca banii se plimbau destul de des intre cei doi jucatori, insa jocul avea oarece miza cata vreme "o linie" era un milion, iar martul doua milioane.

Hi! Did you come here from Google looking for troubleshooting information about the PC game Jungle Legend? If so, I just wanted to let you know that I am also getting crashes from the main menu reporting that final.exe had a problem. At least you know you’re not alone on this vast internet.

…Moving right along, tonight’s game is Jungle Legend. It came in a new batch of obscure games from an eBay seller. Whenever a new shipment comes, I always feel like delving right into at least one of them. Unfortunately, this is the one I chose. Unfortunate because it did not work. The game had IncaGold on the packaging which made me feel good because they were responsible for Hot Wired. It looks like an outfit named Flair Software licensed IncaGold’s 3D engine for this title.

The game’s installer shows a graphic for 3D Real Hunting. That threw me off somewhat– was it an ad or an oversight on the part of the installation engineer?

The game’s documentation is quite thorough and straightforward about the storyline– skimming… African rainforests… tribes, ancient race… 4 magic stones, correspond to earth elements like fire and water. Okay, I gather I’m supposed to collect the 4 rocks. It occurs to me I almost have enough to write a MobyGames description, except that I don’t exactly know what the gameplay is like. I assume it’s a 3D game, and an action one at that. But I don’t know if it’s 1st or 3rd-person or perhaps side-scrolling.

Bruce Ivins anthrax case similar to a Law & Order episode?

We were talking about the Bruce Ivins tragedy on the way back from lunch and something about it finally clicked in my brain.

Let me take a step back, I’m a big fan of Law & Order Criminal Intent. I remembered an episode that is eerily similar to this case, the one entitled, A Person of Interest.

In a continuation of a previous episode, the season finale finds Detectives Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probing the murder of a former Air Force nurse — but the discovery of anthrax nearby intensifies the search and pushes Goren into the headlines when he is blamed for a suspicious scientist’s suicide.

I’m really surprised people haven’t seen that connection. I found only one reference to it in the comments of this post at HuffPo.

Preturile au explodat pur si simplu la capitolul transport, Maruta vazandu-se nevoit sa inchirieze nu mai putin de cinci tir-uri pentru a deplasa corturile de la Bucuresti la Targu Jiu. După ce a lansat maneaua “Sunt sclava inimii mele” şi a fost protagonista unui videoclip al solistei de muzică etno Luminiţa Ţicelanu, Magda Ciumac pregăteşte o nouă surpriză pentru admiratorii săi.
Săptămâna viitoare, vedeta OTV va de-buta în mod oficial în cariera sa de cântăreaţă cu o serie de concerte pe Litoral. O va iniţia în lumea spectacolelor live manelistul Nicolae Guţă. Şi, ca să-şi încălzească vocea, Magda a început să înre-gistreze în studio trei melodii cu care să îşi încânte fanii. Doar nu se face să se prezinte în faţa publicului cu o singură piesă!

“Noaptea o să fiu la OTV, iar ziua în studioul de înregistrări. După ce termin treaba la studio va trebui să învăţ cântecele la perfecţie pentru că vreau ca debutul meu să fie un succes”, se ambiţionează vedeta.Magda nu va pleca singură la mare. Ea va fi însoţită de cel mai straşnic bodyguard. Acesta este chiar fratele său mai mic, Paul. De când sora lui a devenit vedetă, Paul s-a mutat în Bucureşti şi o însoţeşte aproape peste tot. El este student şi visează la o carieră în economie.
